MileGate combines carrier-grade broadband access, telephony and data interfaces in one single, compact Next-Generation Access Platform. With POTS and ISDN interfaces, VoIP media gateways based on H.248/MEGACO and SIP and integrated V5.2 interfaces, MileGate is the ideal foundation for any telephony solution. Delivering Ultimate Broadband
As advanced, broadband-intensive applications, like high definition video, continue to emerge, it is clear that bandwidth requirements will continue to grow. VDSL2 can extend the useful life and service capacity of copper plant, but fiber is the only technology prepared to meet future bandwidth requirements. Fiber access has moved from early adopters to mainstream communication service providers looking to gain service and operational advantages against their competition. Today, two fiber access technologies – GPON and Active Ethernet (AE) – have dominated deployments in North America. Calix offers a complete system solution for both GPON and AE.
GPON Is the Most Widely Deployed Fiber Access Technology
GPON has emerged as the leading fiber access technology for delivering residential, business, and mobile backhaul applications. Calix was the first company to offer GPON access solutions in North America, and today Calix GPON solutions are deployed by more service providers than all other vendors combined.
The key to the widespread adoption of GPON is its remarkable flexibility. GPON can deliver RF video and IPTV, TDM voice and VOIP, as well as 10/100/1000 Ethernet and TDM or PWE3 based T1s. With 2.5 Gbps downstream bandwidth and 1.2 Gbps upstream, GPON can handle today's applications and scale for the future. Calix GPON also includes a third wavelength for RF video and offers RF Return over a fourth wavelength to support RF based interactive services (utilizing the SCTE RFOG standard). Calix offers GPON in four platform and nodal products: the C7, E7-2, E7-20, and B6. These platforms work together with Calix 700GX and 700GE ONTs for a full system solution.
Calix GPON conforms to the ITU G.984 standard. Calix has responded to the specific needs of our rural customers by being the first company to adopt Extended Reach GPON utilizing new amendments to the G.984 ITU standard – a solution that is especially useful for serving customers in low-density areas. Extended Reach GPON saves tens of thousands of dollars in outside plant cabinet and powering costs by extending the loop length of GPON from the traditional 20 km to 40 km.
Calix 700GE ONTs are designed with filters for coexistence with 10G GPON and 10G EPON standards, which will be commercially available over the next couple of years. This allows Calix customers to smoothly migrate their networks from 2.5 GPON to the next generation of fiber access technology standards.

Residential Active Ethernet and Business Point-to-Point Gigabit Ethernet Solutions Allow Dedicated Bandwidth Expansion
Complementing Calix leadership in GPON, over the past year Calix has become the leading provider of Active Ethernet. Calix now offers AE on four platforms or nodal products: the E7-2, E7-20, E5-400, and B6. Calix 700GX and 700GE ONTs provide an innovative approach to Active Ethernet (AE) and point-to-point GE service delivery that can dramatically lower OPEX. Calix believes that GPON and AE are complementary technologies and both play an important role in deploying a Unified Access Infrastructure. Designed with the future in mind, the 700GX and 700GE ONTs automatically detect – and support – GPON or AE technology. In addition to simplifying initial deployment decision-making, auto-detect capability also allows service providers ongoing choice in how best to serve their customers. Decisions made today can be changed in the future without replacing ONTs. As an example, a communications service provider can roll out GPON for residential customers and selectively target high bandwidth business customers with AE – merely by swinging a fiber jumper to a GE port on the E7-2 GPON card. That is all it takes to upgrade a subscriber's bandwidth. No truck roll, no replacing the original ONT.
